2018 Junior Lifeguards Week #3

Week #3 … recap

One Saturday to go (7/28/18) … the training is going to start at 10:05 AM and conclude at 11:05 AM. The last session is free as well. Parents should arrive at 9:45 AM and fill out a waiver. Without a waiver, your child cannot participate in the S.P.J.L.P.

Introduction: beach safety and today’s agenda

Beach Run as a group; 1K (ages 5-9) and 1.5K (ages 10-15) and three dunnies

Captain Gorman was running the noodle dash and flat tow rescue station (Jr.SPLGs were getting familiar with water approach, water entry and water exit in safe and responsible manner.)

Tower Captain Paige Kolar was running the surfboard rescue station (Jr.SPLGs were getting familiar with water approach with a surfboard, water entry with a surfboard and water exit with a surfboard in safe and responsible manner.)

Tower Captain John Delaney was running the field events; logs, sprints and beach flags station

Closure

Beach Safety Tips
1.Swim only in guarded area.
2.Do not dive into shallow water.
3.No ball playing or Frisbees on shore line.
4.Never swim alone.
5.Children should always swim with adult supervision.
6.Check with lifeguards on beach and surf conditions.
7.If you hear a whistle, look to see if the lifeguard is signaling you.
8.Avoid digging deep holes that can be hazardous to others.
9.Never sit or dig in front of the lifeguard tower.
10. No glass containers are permitted on the beach.
11.No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the beach.
12. NEVER fake calls for HELP. However, don’t be embarrassed to call for help.
13. If you need help, do not panic. If you are unable to swim back to shore, call or wave for help. The lifeguards are well trained in water and beach safety. Respect their presence and judgement and never interfere with their work.
