Officers Save Suicidal Woman on Robert Moses Bridge

Woman had written on Facebook earlier in the day that she planned to jump off of the well-known landmark.

Suffolk County Police Officers are being credited for saving a woman who was attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the Robert Moses Bridge earlier this morning.

Police said Officers Don Lettieri and Kevin Krause were on their normal patrol near the bridge this morning at around 10:55 a.m. when another driver alerted them to the woman attempting to jump.

Family members of the woman, who was not identified by police, also alerted police through 911 that she had made a Facebook post stating she planned to commit suicide and jump off the bridge today.

Upon arriving on the bridge, the officers noticed the woman’s car and saw her attempting to climb over the bridge wall.

The police pulled her over back over the wall onto the bridge to safety.

The woman, 43 years old, was later transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.
