2026 Smith Point ‘Junior Lifeguard Tournament’

The Smith Point Junior Lifeguard Tournament was held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Smith Point Beach. The event brought together our junior lifeguards for a morning filled with competition, teamwork, and fun. Boys and girls competed in three age groups: Group A for ages 14–15, Group B for ages 12–13, and Group C for ages 10–11.

The tournament featured five events that tested the reaction time, speed, swimming ability, and lifeguarding skills of each competitor. The events included a 120-meter distance swim with a rescue belt, a 1-kilometer beach run, a run-swim-run, a 50-meter sprint, and everyone’s favorite, the beach flags competition.

The tournament gave our Junior Lifeguards a chance to put their training to the test while building confidence, sportsmanship, and friendships. Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each event, recognizing their hard work, preparation, and dedication.

Apart from that, each competitor enjoyed a chipwich sandwich soon after the beach flags. Also, we would like to thank our friends from East Hampton, John Ryan Senior and John Ryan Junior for their stedfast guidance, patience and help putting our event together.

We would like to thank our Commissioner of Parks John Giannott, our Deputy Commissioner of Parks Jason Smagin, our Chief of Lifeguards Keith Kolar for their continued support of our program. Also, a big shoutout to the parents for driving your kids and showing up each morning Sunday after Sunday. Additionally, a big thank you to our Captains and all of our lifeguards for teaching our goals of the program; to empower young individuals with essential lifesaving skills while building responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and camaraderie in the ocean environment.

…And remember, always swim near a lifeguard!
