2026 USLA National Lifeguard Championship

The Smith Point Lifeguard Team had a great week at the 2026 United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) National Championships, earning three individual National Championship titles and several top finishes against the best lifeguards from across the country.

The competition started on August 5 with Ryan Feeley winning the Men’s Surf Race (30–34) National Championship. Alex Triani also captured a National Championship in the Men’s Beach Flags (35–39), while Pat Scribner finished with a solid fifth place finish.

On August 6, the second day of the competition, Smith Point continued to perform well. Matthew Koch placed sixth in the Open Men’s Beach Flags, Cameron Horn finished ninth, Sean Kelly took 15th. Additionally, Brian Perry placed 13th in the Open Men’s 90-Meter Sprint.

Friday, the final day of the competition, brought another National Championship as Vidal Macchia won the Open Men’s 2K Beach Run. Dester Cuomo added a strong 10th-place finish, and the relay team of Brett Doxsee, Cameron Horn, Matthew Koch, and Matthew Perry placed seventh in the Open Men’s 4 × 90-Meter Relay.

Lastly, the culminating event took place on Friday night with a strong finish of our landline teams. Cuomo, Feeley, Doxsee and Higueros took 7th; Blatt, Golding, McCabe and Schwalm took 5th and a team of Triani, Scribner, Varrichio and Perry walked away with an impressive 2nd place finish. Not to be outdone, our girls’ team of Cunniffe, Cullen, Kiser, Lesiewicz pulled away with a 2nd place finish as well. Nice work all around!
