Junior Lifeguards 2026, week #3
The third week of the Junior Lifeguard Educational Program was another super day at both Meschutt and Smith Point beach. At Meschutt, our juniors started the morning with a quarter-mile beach run before practicing flat tow rescues and landline rescue in calm water. Captain Paul ended the morning session with a review of important safety tips and the importance of fitness, focus and fun.
At the Point, Junior Guards completed four exciting training stations. They began with a practice of a landline rescue. Where a group of junior lifeguards pull the line back together to bring a swimmer in distress back to shore. They then practiced beach flags to improve reaction time, tower entries to safely enter the surf, and finished with the challenging Run-Swim-Run and noodle dash event. Every activity helped strengthen teamwork and prepare participants with real-life lifeguarding skills.
Important Note: We are asking parents, guardians, and grandparents to remind their children that once they are assigned to a group, they must stay with that group. If, for any reason, a child needs a bathroom break, a water break, or simply wants to get a towel, they must first notify the senior lifeguard leading their group. We always want to ensure that if a group starts a station with 20 junior lifeguards, it also finishes the station with 20 junior lifeguards. Please do not allow your child to walk away without informing their group leader.
And remember—always swim near a lifeguard!
