Junior Lifeguards 2026, week #1

The first Sunday of the Junior Lifeguard Program was a great success, with an enthusiastic group of young participants ready to learn and have fun. The weather was excellent, and everyone showed a positive attitude throughout the morning.

Today’s training was divided into three stations that helped build important lifeguarding skills. At the surfboard station, participants practiced balance, paddling, and board control while learning how rescue boards are used in the ocean in a safe and responsible way.

At the tower entry station, junior lifeguards learned the proper way to jump off the tower and enter the water quickly and safely. It seemed that this one was the crowd’s favorite!

During the beach flags station, juniors competed in a fast-paced event that tested their speed, reaction time, and determination.

Smith Point Captains and lifeguards encouraged teamwork, safety, and good sportsmanship at every station. It was an outstanding start to the summer, and everyone is looking forward to continuing to improve their skills in the weeks ahead. We cannot wait until next Sunday!

Things to Bring With You: 

Completed Waiver,  a bathing suit, towel and your water bottle and sunscreen! 

Locations: 

Ages 6-9 

Meschutt Beach; children must be able to swim 25 yards continuously and must be able to go in the water and under the water unassisted. Parent/Guardian must stay; this is not a drop off program. 

Ages 10-15 

Smith Point County Park; children must be able to swim 50 yards continuously and must be able to go in the water and under the water unassisted. Parent/Guardian must stay; this is not a drop off program. 

As a reminder the program takes place on Sundays: July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, and August 2nd from 8:15am-9:45 am. You do not have to attend all sessions in order to participate. But please arrive 5 minutes early and be sure to check in upon your arrival… and remember, always swim near a lifeguard!
