A Pod of Dolphins visits Cupsogue Beach
Dolphins are commonly observed right from the sand or while swimming at Suffolk County Beaches… And no we are not talking about traveling to The Jersey Shore, Southern California, Hawaii or The Gulf Coast. Yes, dolphins regularly visit our beaches. They often swim surprisingly close to the shoreline (sometimes just beyond the breaking waves) to feed on baitfish, socialize, or mate. Please keep in mind important rues and safety. While it is an incredible experience to see them, dolphins are protected species (such as under the Marine Mammal Protection Act in the United States). Maintain Distance; Always observe them from at least 50 yards away. Do Not Touch or Feed: It is illegal to harass, touch, or attempt to feed wild dolphins.
