As Head Lifeguard at Amagansett Beach for 38 years, John led with discipline, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to safety. He mentored generations of lifesavers, shaping beach safety standards around the world. A former Division 1 basketball player at St. John’s University, John brought the same drive and teamwork from the court to the shoreline. He built one of the most respected Junior Lifeguard programs in the world, inspiring youth through leadership, skill, and passion. Beyond his professional achievements, John’s legacy is deeply rooted in his family—married to Patricia M. Ryan for 65 years, with 9 children, 24 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. His life is a true testament to service, teamwork, and love.
