New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced earlier this month she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer, affecting 3 million Americans every year. According to dermatologist across US, it is typically very slow growing skin cancers that rarely impact a person’s health beyond the skin.
Symptoms of basal cell carcinoma include:
- Rough and dry patches of skin that mimic eczema
- Pink papules or bumps
- Small red marks that don’t go away
- Any type of lesion that persistently bleeds or won’t heal If you notice any of these — or other skin changes — make an appointment with your dermatology provider immediately.
