World Drowning Prevention Day: July 25th

Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells and water storage tanks in low- and middle-income countries. But drowning is preventable. In an effort to bring attention to the problem and reduce drowning worldwide, the United Nations has declared July 25th to be World Drowning Prevention Day. As lifeguards, we prevent drowning every day, but there is more to be done and the United States Lifesaving Association stands ready to do our part. Today let’s all focus our attention on the fact that Anyone Can Drown, No One Should. Going forward, let’s all think about how our communities, not only our beaches, can become safer places and take action to make it so. Source: www.usla.org
