Smith Point Takes 2nd at USLA National Lifeguard Championship

More than 500 lifeguards from across around the globe faced off at Virginia Beach in the competitive lifesaving events, ranging from swimming events to using boats or boards. Lifeguards were going head-to-head against each other, with hopes of winning the USLA National Lifeguard Championship and qualifying for the world championships in Australia.

Throughout the 3 day competition Smith Point was in the hunt for its 10th National Title in 15 years … however the mother nature intervened. At approximately 4 PM thunder and lightings along with heavy rain and strong winds rolled in and an hour and a half later, officials, due to an inclement weather cancelled the rest of the tournament.

Events not scored were W/M Open Run Swim, W/M Board Rescue Race, W/M Taplin Relay and Open Landline where four Smith Point teams qualified for the open final. It would have been interesting to see the tournament through. Congratulation to Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue on winning the title and we cannot wait to see all of the competitors back, in Virginia Beach in 2019 season.
