January ’26 Long Island Winter Storm

As winter tightens its grip, an incoming snowstorm is expected to blanket our area with heavy snowfall and challenging conditions. While snow can be beautiful, it also brings risks that require preparation, patience, and care for one another.

This storm is also a reminder to look out for others. Please take time to check on neighbors, especially those who live alone, older adults, and anyone with mobility or health concerns. A quick phone call, text, or knock on the door can provide reassurance—and in some cases, essential help.

When shoveling snow, practice caution. Heavy, wet snow can put significant strain on the body. Take frequent breaks, push snow instead of lifting when possible, and stay hydrated. If you experience chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath, stop immediately and seek help.

By staying alert, helping one another, and putting safety first, we can get through this storm together.
