A powerful nor’easter to hit Long Island

Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services is actively monitoring the forecast ahead of the nor’easter expected to impact our region this weekend. The U.S. National Weather Service (New York, NY) has issued a High Wind Watch and Coastal Flood Watch, with strong winds, moderate rainfall, and possible coastal flooding anticipated.

As a precaution, the Suffolk County Parks Department will close the Cupsogue, Montauk, and Shinnecock East campgrounds by 4:00 PM on Saturday. These sites will remain closed until after the storm passes and conditions are reassessed.

At Smith Point, tent camping and check-ins will not be allowed on Sunday or Monday. Guests with reservations will have the option to check in on Saturday or Tuesday, depending on availability. Affected reservation holders will receive an email with details about their booking.

Further updates will be shared as needed.
