Smith Point and Cupsogue beaches are closed Thursday (8/21/25) due to Hurricane Erin

Due to the high surf conditions at Smith Point and Cupsogue County Parks, both beaches are closed to swimming Thursday, August 21, 2025. Please use caution if visiting the beaches and do not enter the water.
Hurricane Erin, a Category 2 storm in the Atlantic (As of 8/20/25 at 10 PM), is generating powerful swells that have prompted a rip current warning for Long Island beaches. The National Weather Service warns of dangerous surf and strong rip currents, urging swimmers to stay in lifeguard-monitored areas, avoid swimming alone, and remain on shore if conditions appear unsafe until the storm passes.
And remember … Always swim near a lifeguard.
