Junior Lifeguards 2025, week #2

During the second week of the Junior Lifeguard Educational Program at Meschutt, our still water beach, boys and girls kicked off the morning with a quarter-mile beach run to get warmed up. After stretching and hydration, participants focused on flat tow rescues—practicing safe approaches and proper towing techniques in calm water. The flat conditions allowed our junior guards to refine their control and communication during simulated rescues. Additional water and land activities followed, including buddy swims, rescue tube relays, and teamwork drills. The day ended with a quick recap of safety tips and a reinforcing the importance of fitness, focus, fun and safety.
At the oceanfront, Junior Guards began week two with a half-mile soft sand beach run, building endurance and mental toughness. After catching their breath, they moved right into beach flags, sharpening their reaction time and sprinting skills and water events. The action continued with tower entries, where guards practiced safe and efficient water entries from a lifeguard towers. This seems to be a crowd favorite! Double yoke rescues followed—teaching teamwork and proper technique in more advanced rescue scenarios. The session wrapped up with deep water dives, reinforcing breath control and confidence. Each activity focused on developing real-life lifeguard skills while promoting strength, awareness, and teamwork among the group.
…and remember always swim near a lifeguard!
