Smith Point Competes at Mid-Atlantic Regional Lifeguard Championship

Each year (7/9/2025), lifeguards who patrol the beaches throughout our region come together to compete in the USLA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The purpose of such an event is to showcase the skills and knowledge it takes to be a lifeguard. The day is filled with action-packed events that can’t be seen in any other forum.
These championships feature a wide range of individual and team events designed to test speed, strength, stamina, and rescue techniques. Events include surf swims, beach sprints, paddle-board relays, rescue simulations, and Iron Guard competitions that combine multiple disciplines. Each challenge reflects real-life rescue scenarios and requires lifeguards to rely on training, teamwork, and split-second decision-making. Beyond competition, the event fosters camaraderie and respect among guards from different beach patrols. It’s a celebration of dedication, safety, and athleticism—highlighting what it truly means to be an ocean lifeguard.
