Junior Lifeguards 2026, final week #4

Sadly, this weekend marked the fourth and final session of our Junior Lifeguard Educational Program. Once again, Mother Nature treated us to another beautiful summer day.

At Meschutt, our junior lifeguards started the morning with a team stretch followed by a quarter-mile beach run. They then practiced flat tow rescues and landline rescue techniques in calm water. Captain Paul wrapped up the session by reviewing important beach safety tips and reminding everyone about the importance of fitness, focus, and having fun.

At Smith Point, the junior guards rotated through four exciting training stations in three different groups. They began by practicing water entries and diving to the ocean floor to retrieve sand. Next, they competed in beach flags to improve their speed and reaction time, practiced tower entries to safely enter the surf, and finished with the challenging Run-Swim-Run event and surf rescue drills. Every activity helped build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and prepare participants with valuable real-life lifeguarding skills.

We would like to thank our Commissioner of Parks, Deputy Commissioner of Parks and our Chief of Lifeguards and our lifeguards for empowering young individuals with essential lifesaving skills while fostering a deep-rooted sense of responsibility, leadership, and camaraderie within the still-water and ocean environments.

And remember—always swim near a lifeguard!
