Suffolk State of Emergency
On August 19, 2024, Suffolk County declared a state of emergency following unprecedented rainfall that led to severe flooding across the region. The torrential downpours, which exceeded forecasted amounts, overwhelmed drainage systems and caused widespread road closures, power outages, and significant damage to homes and businesses.
Emergency services were quickly mobilized to assist residents, particularly in low-lying areas where floodwaters posed immediate dangers.
