Junior Lifeguards 2024, week # 3
The third week of junior lifeguards was ‘action-packed’, with an emphasis on practical rescue skills and teamwork. The Sunday kicked off with a series of rescue simulations designed to mimic real-life scenarios at each beach. One of the highlights of today was jumping off the tower, a thrilling activity that tested the speed, reaction time and confidence of each participant. At Meschutt, we were walking into our water… This exercise was not only fun but also crucial for building trust in junior guards’ abilities and stamina.
Following the tower jumps, the focus shifted to surfboard rescues. The juniors were trained on the proper techniques for approaching and securing victims using surfboards. This included paddling techniques, balancing, and efficient victim transport back to shore.
Teams raced against each other, putting their newfound skills to the test in a dynamic and challenging environment, it was fun! These relays emphasized the importance of speed, coordination, and teamwork. Overall, the third week was a comprehensive blend of excitement and skill development, preparing the junior lifeguards for next week while reinforcing the values of teamwork.
