Dead Whale Washed up at Smith Point
On July 18th, the Smith Point Lifeguards responded to a deceased whale drifting approximately .75 miles off the main tower. The animal was already deceased once lifeguards arrived on scene. It should be noted that dead whales floating in the Ocean attract other marine life that may feed on it. It would be foolish, irresponsible and extremely dangerous for anyone to swim up and/or get on a surfboard and “check it out”.
If you see anything in the Ocean that looks out of the ordinary and/or concerns you, please notify a lifeguard. We will investigate and call the appropriate authorities if needed. We are here to help you.
