NEWMAC Runners of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following a pair of successful performances at the Brooks Invitational over the weekend, MIT collected the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s and women’s Runner of the Week awards on Monday. Daniel Harper (Naperville, Ill.) was named the men’s runner of the week for the third time this year while Brooke Johnson (Shoreham, N.Y.) collected her second award of the season on the women’s side.
Johnson finished fourth overall out of almost 400 runners at the Brooks Invitational, held at the site of this year’s NCAA Division III championship. The junior completed the 6k course in 22:04 to help MIT take second as a team in the meet, which featured a dozen nationally ranked squads.
Harper paced the Cardinal and Gray on Saturday, finishing 13th overall out of over 400 runners. The senior completed the 8k course in 25:26, to help MIT take seventh in the team standings.
Both Tech squads will return to action in two weeks, as they look to defend their respective conference titles. The NEWMAC championship will be held on Sunday, October 30 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
